Has any one had this recall issue fixed on their '04 Dyna? I had mine in to my "local" dealer last August to get this and the recall for the throttle cables rubbing the tank. Back in February, I opened the gas cap and gas spewed everywhere and it tipped me off that the recall fix had not been done. I took it to another shop and they verified with HD that there was no record of the fix. Now the shop is having a run around with HD to get the correct part for the fix. HD says the part was shipped and the dealer said they never got it and HD will only send the recalled part one time for each vin number. It has been about 7 weeks and they still have not gotten the part. I did not think a fuel line would be so difficult to get.
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, A CONDITION OCCURS THAT COULD ALLOW PRESSURE TO BUILD UP IN THE FUEL TANK. ON FUEL INJECTED VEHICLES, THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE FUEL TO SPRAY OUT UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN THE FUEL CAP IS REMOVED. ON CARBURETED VEHICLES, EXCESSIVE FUEL COULD BE TRANSFERRED TO THE CARBURETOR, WHICH WOULD EVENTUALLY ALLOW FUEL TO DRIP FROM THE AIR CLEANER.
Consequence:
THESE SITUATIONS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR CREATE A FIRE HAZARD FOR PERSONS OR PROPERTY ON OR NEAR THE MOTORCYCLE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL TEST EACH CANISTER FOR BLOCKAGE, THEN REPLACE AS NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN NOVEMBER 4, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATIONżS AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
