I just took mine apart to have them powder coated, and when the manual told me to place the forks in the special tool that mounts in a bench vise I just put them back in the triple tree's to hold them. other than that it's pretty straight forward.

Mine are the 49mm tubes. In the pix you'll see how I stabilized the stock lowers while I broke loose the 12mm socket-head damper bolt. Another member told me about getting the L-wrench at Sears ($7.99?). You can use the short end of the L-wrench on the right side bolt, but it's not long enough to reach up to the left side. I used a large combination wrench as a cheater. I'd say a M/C jack is a near-necessity, though with some big wood blocks and a bottle jack, you might be able to make-do as long as you have someone to help stabilize things while you try to break loose those 12mm bolts. I drained my forks thru those damper bolt holes atop the axle; yours won't take the same amount to refill as mine. With those bolts removed, you just use the lower like a slide-hammer to remove it from the tube AFTER removing the dust cap, dust seal, and oil seal retainer clip! PM me if you need any clarifications or add'l info.

A service manual will be your best aid while taking on this task.

A piece of 2" PVC work great to seat the seals.

Mud did a nice write up also. Dammit I cant think of the name of the pieces Mud bought to put in the bottom of the forks... I-something or other...may want to do that while you have it apart.
