Heel rests are excellent. I have Kurakyn Dually foot pegs and Kurakyn heel rests on my 2007 FXDC Super Glide Custom and I have Harley-Davidson forward controls. The heel rests make a big difference in comfort especially when you are riding 200-300 miles at a clip. Regarding dragging, no the heel rests do not drag. If you lean the bike way over in a turn the end of the footpegs should drag but the heel rests are way inboard of the end of the peg so they are not going to drag.
Thanks everyone for the help. I like the way the HD airfoil pegs and heel rests look so I am going to try those out. Thanks for the advice and the pictures.
