Alright this is kind of an odd one, I have a buddy that is going to purchase a new '09 FXDB in a few weeks. He wanted to know if he (probably a lot of my help too) could do the set up himself and not have to pay the dealer.
I know that he would have to go get it inspected him self, kinda like a kit bike. I've never heard of a dealer willing to sell a complete bike still in the crate from the factory.
My first thought was that it might void his warranty, but that seems that the MoCo would have to warranty the parts and not the labor for the assembly, since they didn't do it.
He figured he might as well as he is going to be putting pipes, forward controls and some other stuff on right out of the box.
So, anyone ever hear of this happening or can think of any major issues with this?
probably not gonna happen. A guy I knew tried to do that with a snowmobile and the dealer wouldn't sell it to him with out setting it up. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask though.
I got the dealer to waive the setup fee.... almost 700 bucks. That's what I would ask for.... I highly doubt they'll let you set it up, and then have a warranty.
Yeah ... haven't you been paying attention? [J/K] The bike is the downpayment for the Hundreds of Dollars he'll be spending on mods, parts, upgrades, etc. ....
He'll have all the time in the world to turn a wrench on the thing ... just tell him to be patient ... and start saving up for his 'mod fund' ....
