Default Mid controls are killing my back

I've had my '09 SC now for 2 months and have a little over 700 miles on her. My back gets sore after about 30 miles on the bike. I first thought it was the factory seat so I bought a mustang Solo with the back rest, it is very comfortable. It doesnt matter though the pain sets in and ruins my ride. I've tried riding with and without the seat back, the seat back definately helps. So last week I bought a set of highway pegs, and this really helped things a bunch, problem with that is I almost killed myself not being able to get on the rear brake fast enough when this blond on the cell phone decided to slam her brakes on to make a lane change to exit the freeway. I thought I was going to have a real short riding career. Anyhow, I'm real careful using those highway pegs now. I have to do one of two things here and I would appreciate some input on you folks that suffer from bad back, either I sell this bike and go with somethin with forward controls or put forwards on this bike---or maybe forwards wont help me in the first place. I love this damn bike and dont want to give up yet, maybe I'll start taking pain relievers before the ride, that would make for some riding experience.
Thanks brothers.

I know how you feel. I loved my mids for aggressive riding, but my right hip starts killin me! I had to go with forwards. NO PAIN at all now. I kept mid pegs for a change if I needed them. I rode 125 miles today and used the mids once. Within 3 minutes, my hip started to cramp. I'd say try forwards. It would suck to get rid of that sweet scoot.

Yep, just keep the following distance up and keep that head on a swivel.

Look into buying forwards, it would be a heck of a lot cheaper then buying a new bike. (probably)

I literally could not ride my SB with mids for more than 5 miles without my hips feeling like they were going to let loose. I have had no problems with forwards.

Forwards with heel rests will definitely help. Leave your mid pegs in place for stretching, and you'll be good to go!

I just finished the first 100 miles on an FXDL coming off of a XL 1200 custom with forward controls.

I'm all for the "to each his own" mantra, but I can't figure out for the life of me how anyone rides with just mids. Granted they give you a more aggressive riding position, but I feel cramped on them, and have (even on short around-town rides) gotten the back pain problem, and I'm only 5'8". Not to mention I'm constantly banging my shins on them and having a hard time developing the muscle memory to find the damn things on the first try coming off of the highway pegs.

Anyways, I've resolved myself to leaving them on for several hundred miles to give them a fair shot, but I'll probably be putting on forward controls with Kury Switchblades (stirrups/heelrests and forward controls are the ticket IMO) sometime in the near future, and I think the same would work well for you.

Forwards my friend... get the forwards. I'm about 5'9" and they fit great.

What the man says is true. Shameless effort toward my 1000th post. Thanks for indulging my OCD.

I agree ... my bike originally had mids and now has forwards. I actually like the idea of mids with highway pegs but if that doesn't work for you get forwards put on. I'm sure HD sells them for all their mid peg bikes. It's an easy way to rake in more of our cash! :-)
