Since i bought my bike new i have always changed my own oil, and since my first oil change I have been using Bel Rey Gear Saver. I recently had the trans worked on and the dealer stopped stocking Gear Saver and said they have AMSoil and can put that in instead. This stuff sucks. My trans bangs when shifting so bad, much worse then it did with the factory stuff. It's been warm out here and after 10 minutes of riding it just breaks down or something and bangs every gear up and down. I don't recommend this oil in the trans at all. And yes it is the 80 140 trans lube. I will be draining it out after 300 miles and pouring in some Gear Saver by Bel Rey.
I'm satisfied, I guess all trannys aren't created equal..I've used Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90 for 3-4years with no complaints. I get the usual clank into 1st, then it's a more quiet shift noise up/down, and I don't really think about it anymore until I hit 1st again. Anyway, maybe I'm just special (lol) ......hope your next change solves your noise problem.
Would agree with the Above use what works best for you .. Have had good Luck since 2000 with Amsoil 75W110 Severe gear on several style Models .. Still using it and Happy with it ..
I use Amsoil synthetic in all three holes and have'nt had any problems so far. Each to his own but I dont reckon the transmission noise is to bad. The type of oil used should'nt have any effect on shifting noise.
The type of oil used should'nt have any effect on shifting noise.
The viscosity will make a huge difference plus each oil maker uses different additives. So, I have found some noticable difference in different brands. Dino oils usually abate noise better than synthetics. Don't ask me why but they do.
Pretty surprised to hear that. I've been using Amsoil severe gear 75-110 for the past 1500-2000 miles with no problems. Sure it clanks into 1st, but after that it's nice and smooth - neutral engagement is very positive as well, much better than the fluid it shipped with. I'm thinking about giving Redline a try next time, but I've been very pleased so far with Amsoil.
+1 on Redline
First gear clunk is almost non-existent. Upshift and downshift is so smooth, you wonder if you hit the gear or not. Cold morning starts can get a little testy, so make sure you're sitting on the bike before you push the button.
