That's it egg him on! LOL Next he'll get a A/C and need a fuel management device !!
Well joeone the hardest thing is to stick to one mod! Everyone wants his ride just a little louder and that is where it starts! To answer your quest NO with pipes alone your fine because although you open the exhaust stream you haven't let extra air in yet. Once you let in extra air you will need more gas - logical right?- more gas and more air = larger explosion = more power! But not much, not enough to even feel it under your butt! I was happy with the download for a while but now I have ordered a power comander V which tunes the air to fuel mixture more appropriately = even more power& cooler running engine with less vibration so they say. If you ask me the money I spent on the HD download should have gone towards my pc V. HD just loads a standard map to the ecm they don't tune anything and they charge you +200$ A geek with an ice cream in one hand could do it!

All nonsense. This is a closed loop EFI system. About 20 years behind the Germans (BMW), but finally HD woke up. This means that the system will read the AFR at the O2 sensor and adjust itself to ensure the programmed AFR (about 14.5:1...a bit lean, but not bad). As long as you don't reduce backpressure to the point of idiocy, there is NOTHING you need to do but bolt on your slip-ons and make more noise. Mind you, the air cleaner change will do nothing to improve your performance and the pipe change will likely reduce torque. Fact of life boys. Without cam timing change, intake manifold change, displacement increase, etc., pipes and ac will only degrade torque and make your bike louder. Have a look at Powercommander's website. All adjustments for enrichment are LOCKED OUT in the entire useful RPM and TP range. It only makes a difference at WOT, but not for normal riding. The placebo effect is strong here Obiwan.
The stock air filter will provide all the air your engine needs without internal mods. Feel free to remove it or put on a K&N. The EFI will mix the fuel and air to achieve the programmed AFR. Get it? Doesn't matter what the filter is doing. Save your money. If you want it louder, bolt on some slipons...otherwise, save your money. Better yet, buy a cheap sport-bike for when you want to go fast. An air-cooled HD will never be a fast bike by modern standards. FYI...I own a 167 hp 450 lb BMW K1200S for sport riding and have my FXDC for leisure.
silver your an idiot.changing ur intake absolutely makes a change. your giving you angine more air. air and gas make your engine run. altering one will obviusly make a difference.
I don't believe anyone is changing their intake. . .only their air filter. Idiot indeed. The air-filter is NOT the limiting factor.
Let me dumb it down for you. Say you're rolling along at 3000 rpms and then roll on the throttle up to 5000 rpms. Do you really think the stock air cleaner is "choking" off the air intake to the engine to accomplish this feat? Of course not. The engine will only use the air it needs...doesn't matter how much is floating around in front of the air-flow-meter. That's what the afm does. Heck, take your air filter off all together...bike won't go any faster. Really.
FYI, decel popping is more audible with loud pipes, but more than likely it is caused by an air-leak somewhere. Fresh cool air is getting into the hot exhaust chamber and igniting with unspent fuel.
