I fueled up my '97 Dyna convertible for a trip tomorrow. When I went out to put some stuff in the saddle bags I notice something leaking under the primary gear case. It smelled like gas.

I took ride of about 5 miles to warm it up and see if it would leak anymore. So far it hasn't.

It looks like a hose goes into the frame right in front of the rear fender and there was some stain around where it entered I tried to trace the hose back and it looks like it goes under the tank. Would this be an overflow from the gas tank.

I would like to try to confirm this before I start on my trip tomorrow.

I can't be 100% sure but two of my riding buddies had the same thing happen right after a fill-up. Seemed to leak out a few onces then stopped. We were on a long trip so they both said they "topped it off". It hasn't happend to either of them again. One is an 5 or 6 year old Wide glide and the other is a brand new Fat Bob. They both leaked in the same place, a few inches in front of the rear tire.

I'd say it's the fuel overflow.

 

Yes, that's the gas tank overflow. Ride easy. Don't fill 'er so full if you're going to park it right away.
