Dealing with my 2nd failure of my IPB. Started hearing it clearly yesterday; that steel rollerskate wheel sound that rolls to a stop when you pull in your clutch lever, and spools back up when you release it (stopped, idling in neutral). Taking it in Tuesday morning to the same dealer that replaced it under warranty at 3900-mi (now, 12.5K-mi).
Food for thaught. Out of all the bearings that have gone bad, what type of oil is beeing used in the primary? Just trying to see if there might be a pattern here. I used Syn3 for the first 10k and my bearing went out at 12k, then i have been using reg dino 10w40 and some times the HD f+. I now have 24k and no problems yet.
I am trying to wrap my head around this IPB noise, seems to be different descriptions on when it happens. Pulling the clutch in shifting, letting the clutch out shifting, idling with clutch out, idling with clutch pulled in??? Could someone please give a good description on exactly when it happens or point me to a good post on the description. I may be starting to experience a problem too.
Thanks, CB

The only time the bearing will quiet down is when the input shaft to the transmission stops turning. That only happens when the bike is at a stop, in gear with the clutch pulled in.

Somebody mentioned on this forum a while back ago about the tranny cases not up to par/compatible with the newer trannys. The trans cases for the 07's are different then the 06's, I'd check part numbers on this one. It seems the 07's aren't having this issue, or are they?
I had heard that there was a processing problem (heat treat) with the bearings in the 2006s. Mine went out at 4400 miles and there is no mistaking that dreaded noise at a stop with the clutch pulled in. I put in a Drag Specialties bearing, but only have 5500 miles on the sccot so we will see what happens.
I am trying to figure out why the 06 dyna family is the only one with this problem? Is it a process problem that they had or did they go to a different "cheaper" bearing? Like I said I pretty much had it apart in an hour so if it goes out again I will brobably go for a different bearing.
