Forget the windshield! Full face helmet will solve all your concerns. I just bought one because of the very same reason. Went for a long interstate ride on a very windy day yesterday, and it was GREAT!
I may consider a full face for longer rides. I'd hate to get a $350.00 windshield that I dont like the looks of to begin with only to find out that it doesnt work that well. Really dont like full face helmets either. I know you cant return helmets. What about windshields. Wonder if I bought a HD quick disconnect if I could return it if it didnt solve the problem.
It's not likely that you can return the windshield, but it never hurts to ask. You should be able to take a full face helmet for a test ride before you buy. I did before I bought my Shoei. I'm with you thou, I much prefer riding with the half hat!

I would let you try my windsheild if you lived close by, HEY DOES ANYONE LIVE NEAR LUCY BROWN?!!!!!!!!
Liked riding my Fat Bob until I hit the highway. Started leaving it in the garage and even considered selling it. Until I got the windshield. Figured spending $350 on a QD Standard height windshield was cheaper than taking a loss on selling a new bike. At 6'3" it made all the difference in the world. Now I can't leave it in the garage. Only time I don't ride it is if it's cold or looks like a possibility of rain.
So i'm going to put a smaller windshield on that i got on friday. It's a national cycles deflector dx. I hope it works, it was only $99 new.
Hey I like the looks of that windshield but are you sure it fits a FatBob? I would be interested in it but their website says there are no products available for the FatBob.
They make two quick disconnects that fit the Fat Bob. I have the taller clear one, and there is a shorter smoke one. Don't have the numbers in front of me, but they are in the book. Makes all the difference in the world.
I love my Fbob but it ranks as one of the worst I have ever tried to put a shield on. Why I have no idea, I had a windvest which looked cool but did little, now a hd quick detach plus a tool bag which is ok but not great but it looks horrible on the bike and now I have a set of memphis lowers coming. Next step no screen and a full face mask.
I was considering the shorter/smoked HD WS for my Fat Bob for long trips and I am getting a full face helmet soon for sure. Currently I wear a Fulmer 3/4 w/a face shield and I love it. I wore my HD half the other day, the first time in months ... Did not enjoy the ride at all. FYI, I'm usually breaking 80 on most rides.
Someone mentioned something about their jacket inflating as they were riding ... LOL ... Man you just need a proper fitting biker jacket, a good one. I have a Schott leather motorcycle jacket w/ a zip in liner I bought almost 20 yrs ago, great for the cold when completely zipped up. www.schottnyc.com And I have a HD summer jacket that's mesh w/ body armor when it's warm outside.
Windshield, half helmet with ear plugs, and as previous poster said a good seat will do wonders. My Mustang Vintage keeps my butt firmly planted in the seat and helps me keep a good posture. For me, a full helmet AND windshield caused too much turbulence. Full face alone would be OK but i don't like the closed in feeling (except on cold days). Congrats on your new ride!
