Wow that sucks! There had to be an issue there before. It's only aluminum I'd think the threads should strip before that would break off like that. You may have saved yourseld from big issues down the road...
Yep it was an OEM set I got off of eBay. I was surprised at how thin it is right there after looking at it. Yea if it broke while I was on the road it might have sucked big time thinking about the stresses on that when turning and such.
I have my ts setup just like that but honestly I don't torque them. I do give them a good tightening though. I've never had my forks move within the trees either from not torquing to spec.
Jeez that's nuts! It had to have been cracked before, and I see no reason how the turn signals could have anything to do with it. WOW, I'm going to keep an eye on that spot on my bike.
Hey Cramil did you have to do any mods to fit that 200 under the rear? Aside from replacing the stock wheel. Did you have to do any realigning?
Check out my winter mod thread click here for some more pics. But the only thing I needed to do was adjust the spacers (used SS arbor shims) to accommodate the new wheel with wider hub and I got a custom pulley so it would fit with the wider hub as well. The stock pulley was into the swingarm. Probably could have machined the back of the stocker for pretty cheap (it is pretty thick and offset to the inside). The brake fit/lined-up good once I got the right spacer in there, and the stock belt guard fit fine as well. Note that I already had the detachable hardware and relocated turn sigs so clearance there was not an issue, it is close but fine. It is an 18" x 5.5" 80 spoke DNA wheel PN M-185WD221 I got through ACM. I got the tire from them too and they mounted it for like $20 more. Think I paid $588 for the wheel and tire mounted shipped to my door. http://www.superiormcsupply.com/m-185wd221.html has the wheel on sale for $335.50 right now.
Thought I'd post an update. I got my new trees from Cass County Choppers today. They were packaged well and look great. I got the wide 3deg version, but they have a bunch of options including a wide 0deg for those that might want the look but not any added rake. They come with SS allen head pinch bolts and SS fork stops and have provision for the stock fork lock. Not bad for just about $225 shipped!!!
Here is a pic in the raw machined finish as they came.
Some after sanding with 600-800-1000 grit wet dry.
Fork stops anf lock detail
And finally all polished up with my original wide trees for comparison.
Now I just need to get the stem pressed in (comes seperate making polish, powder or chrome much easier) Then I'll get them mounted up.
WoooHooo!!! I can't wait!!! Anyone need just a top wide glide tree???
That F'n sucks... Sorry to hear about the broken trees. Your scoot is looking great cramil, It will be worth the long wait. You did some nice work on it.
