Engine problems with an 09 Street Bob.
First off I did use the search function and I couldn't find what I was looking for. Second my 09 Street Bob (stock engine and A/C) with about 700 miles on it (I live in up state NY, the weather is just getting good
) is giving me some trouble. It'll start right up when I go to take it for a ride but after I ride it for a little while then stop for a few minutes it starts hard, keeps turning over but doesn't start up right away. This seems to be getting worse, anyone have this problem? Is there any recalls on the Street Bob's? I'm also having a problem with a small oil leak near the front of the engine, it looks like a sensor of some sort in the engine in front by the timing cover that is leaking. I cleaned it up so I could monitor it, anyone have this problem? I'll take a picture when I get home. I'm not (yet) complaining about this bike, I love it and its under warranty so no big deal. I haven't yet called the dealer on this, I wanted to do my own research first. I'll wait a couple hundred more miles then bring it in for its first service and tell them about it.
Anyone have any info on these problems?

My Super Glide seeped some oil from around the oil pressure switch. Seems to be the same place yours is. This was before the first 500 miles. I cleaned it up with WD40. It has not seeped any oil at all since. Clean yours and keep an eye on it. Some remove switch and seal with teflon tape. Others have done as I have done. And some take to dealer while under warranty. Good luck. I am sorry, I cannot help on the starting problem.
Not sure it would help, but I found that after the bike is warm, if I wait until the fuel pump stops, it starts hard, if I hit the starter wile it is still running, it starts right up...
just a thought..

Does it turn over as fast as it does when you first start it up? I'd check battery connections for tightness... They tend to rattle loose. This may slow your starter down a bit if you dont have a good connection. Other than that, it may be a fuel problem. Have you looked at your plugs? They should look brand new, or you may have fouled one or two with lots of cranking... Just a few ideas to check out. Let us know how it turns out.
I've had both of these problems. Sometimes the fuel injection light won't even come on. It's really intermittent so I haven't taken it to the dealer yet. My oil leak was just a seal that wasn't tightened good. It was leaking in 2 places too. You should take it in and have them look it over...have you had your 500 mile service yet?
Regarding the warm-start issue, my bike is the same way. Cold, it takes maybe 2 cranks to fire up, but after riding for a while and say, stopping for gas, it'll take 4-6 cranks to fire. I'll try Goddahavit's advice re:starting before the fuel pump stops when warm.

Thanks for the info, glad (kinda) to know I'm not the only one noticing these issues. I do tend to wait till the pump and the EFI noise is done before I hit the start button. I was always told to let it run its course before hitting the start button. I cleaned the oil and I'll watch for it to happen again. I'm going to make an appointment for the service soon and have them check these issues.
Thanks again and I will let you know what I find out.

If mine is cold I wait for the pump to cycle and stop. Starts on the first crank. If it is warm, I hit the starter immediately after turning the run switch on. Starts on the first crank. If I deviate from that system, it will take two or three cranks, cold or warm. I probably would have figured it out eventually, but this forum is where I heard it last year.
My 09 bob has that leak look on front right side of motor also. Although it dont look like a leak you know what a drip that runs down looks like it is more like that part of the motor is staind, someone said something of problems with a porous crankcase..... Taking it to stealer to look at. Also have the hard start after warm prob. dealer told me to let the fuel pump run its full course then start, but I am going to try the tips from here: let it run its course when cold and start rightaway when warm, I also got a recal notice in the mail for my jiffy stand. Hope this helps and let us know what comes of the leak I will post what I find out too.
I have a small leak at some unidentified sensor in my case too….. there since it was brand new. I haven’t been too worried about it. If I have to take it in for something else I might make mention of it.
What I heard from one of my dealers is that it is really important to wait until the engine light goes out before attempting to start the bike. Something about how the ECU (maybe?) is adjusting for temperature and whatnot.
My bike can be a little tough to crank sometimes. Seems like it needs a little more crank than it should need, but it hasn’t not started on the second attempt yet.
