That's what I've been told too but from the advice of some people here is to not let it wait while the bike is warm already. Has anyone screwed up their bike or know of someone who has by starting it before the engine light goes out?

Had that problem regularly with the stock ecm. Go get gas with hot bike and go to start it. Cranks and cranks with belching in the exhaust. Stop cranking and give it a second hit on the starter and it would fire right up. The problem went away once I put a Tmax on it. I suspected it was from too much fuel pulse on a hot engine and it floods it. Don't know why it always fired right up on the second starter button hit unless the ecm sensed a problem and killed the spark during the first crank session while it was flooded.

I know this may sound too easy and obvious but the first thing that came to mind is.. are you guys starting the bike in neutral or in gear? I know when I start mine in gear it turns over slower. I try to always start in neutral.
As far as waiting for the light, pump and ECU to run it's course first...sometime I do and sometimes I don't, it never seems to bother anything. Sometimes I just hop on, turn the key, hit the button and go.

You DO NOT have to wait for the check engine light to go out before you start your bike. It is NOT a fuel injection light.
If you have a newer bike with a PC III (not sure about the PC V) it will start harder if you wait till that check engine light goes out and the fuel pump stops priming the lines then start the bike. That is because the PC III loses power after the fuel pump stops pumping so when you crank it, it again gets power and you have to wait a few extra cranks for it to start the bike up. It will start much easier if you flip the switch to run then immediately hit the start button.

As for harder starting after the bike is ran for a while and warm, I have the same thing with my bike and I always start it immediately after flipping the switch to run. As long as it continues to start I don't worry about it too much.

I try to stay consisent with what brand gas (Shell,BP,Mobil) and always premium when avail., on my EFI bike. Haven't had any start problems. I would check those battery cables and snug them down real good.

Port Henry area on Lake Champlain.

Thanks for the info guys. Maybe I should install the PC V I have to see if that helps. I've been waiting because I didn't want to hear the dealer tell me it was because of the PC.

Well I cleaned the area where the leak was and its coming back. I talked to the dealer and he is going to check it out when they do the jiffy stand spring recall. I forgot to tell him about the starting problem I have sometimes but I'll tell him when I bring it in. Unfortunate thing is I want to install my "Gary7 slip-ons" and my PC V but I'm hesitant to do anything until the bikes looked at.
What do you guys think, should I just put the stuff on or wait till they check out these issues so they can't blame it on me?

Had the same problem with my oil sending unit. Took it to the dealer (it's still under warranty) and he said it wasn't installed correctly. He tightened it up and I was on my way.

I got the advice from this forum. I was going to do it myself but someone said it might be a cracked case and I'd end up paying for it.

Take it in.
