Default to chrome or not

I got some bars about 4 months ago at a show. I like the shape about 14 inch rise with 6 inch pullback. I knew when they were purchased that the bars would need to be chromed after I drilled them. I expected the cheap chrome job would not make it through the work. I searched for a place to chrome the bars and discovered that there was no place in the area. I contacted many shops and got prices from 65 to 250. After I settled on a shop the bars went in to a box and of to the UPS store. The first price for shipping was 120 one way; I almost walked out and left the bars there. If I repacked the bars the best price was 60. OK here it the point I can get them powder coated flat black from someone about 10 miles away and be done with it. My family thinks I am giving up and should get them chromed. I was thinking that powder coat would look good, but after all this I don't know if I am just giving up. I also think a couple "told you so" are in order.

I can has spelling?

Looking at your picture, it seems you have a mix of black and chrome, so, imo, you could go either way. Go with what you like!

i think black bars are killer... but i got to question how much the shipping was (were you shipping the next day air or something?)... were you insuring them is that why it was so much (i wouldnt insure them, UPS is a great shipper)... i ship with UPS and have never seen a package cost that much to ship. i shipped a 50 pound subwoofer from ohio to cali for 45 bucks... i just cant see why it cost so much to ship... they cant weight but maybe 8-10 lbs boxed??? those UPS stores must really be ripping people off. got any buddies in shipping or recieving at with factories or business... sometimes they are allowed to ship personal packages and pay cost for them... might be worth asking around!

Go Chrome or Go Home! - Whatever...

Any Chrome on that bike is going to make that part really stand out. chrome your kool pieces and black out the stuff you want to blend in to the bike. If the bars are kick @ss spend the $$, if they are just bars, black them out.

The shipping was ups ground from NJ to CA with no insurance. I found closer shops to do the job but they wanted more money. I was informed it was the size of the box that made it so much money. In the end with shipping and chrome the price balanced out to about the same, well over 200 bills.

That shipping quote is nuts! I shipped my stock rims, rotors, pulley, battery box & tail light and it cost me about $50. And that was from Pennsylvania to Tennessee using a UPS store. As for chrome I usually use www.brownsplating.com and would recommend them 100%. The quality is top notch! Beware of cheap chromers, you get what you pay for! But I think you can go both ways and powder coat them and they still would look good.
