Ready for the dumbest question of the day. How much riding in one year is too much? Obviously everyone will say that is imposable, I would ride every min of every day if I could, ect ect. But How many miles should I expect out of the life of my bike, you know most cars used to be 100,000miles and they were about toast, now it is more like 200,000mi. But what about a Harley, whats its life expectancy, and how many miles on average should it see each year? I have had my 09 bob since Oct. last year and I already have 4,200 miles on it, is that average, or am I prematurely degrading its value, not that I plan on ever getting rid of it. Hope you get what I am getting at, just currious?

Well if you look at the used market you can see 2 to 3k a year is very common so Id say your running above average (atleast on a non bagger). Looked at a 2007 FXDC at local indy today with 3400 miles on it.
As far as motor life there are lots of guys with 50 to 100k on there bikes, so take care of it and ride as much as you can.
Personally I am coming up on 9k and havent had mine 1 year yet.
Wouldn't worry about resale, enjoy the ride man. Far as how long the bike will last I don't know. But anything built can be repaired, upgraded or changed. So you could keep it going a lifetime and then some.
I have a 06 with 23k+ miles on it and runs great. If was for sale may be concidered a high mileage bike compared to most being around 2-5K miles. I don't care I bought it to ride.
Newer cars will last 300,000 miles no problem if you take care of them and maintain them. Newer Harleys last a long time too if you maintain them and take care of them. I've seen most people get 75,000-100,000 miles before they sell it or have the motor and trans rebuilt. It depends on how you ride and mods you might have done. A stock motor will last longer then one thats punched out and has the **** rev'd out out it light to light and never see's the highway.
I bought my bike new in 2006 and currently have 19,300 miles. 1/3 city 1/3 highway 1/3 mountain roads. It's holding up good and shows a little age if you look close but i still get complements on how good it looks, and it runs awesome. I plan on putting at least 100,000 miles on my bike before i decide on rebuilding or buying a new or different one.
Basically it will last as long as you can buy parts for it. With Harley's that's a really long time. Ride it , so your scheduled maintanance and don't worry about it.

Don't even think about resale value. The bike market goes up and down so frequently, there's no telling what your bike will be worth when. I plan to just ride it as much as I feel like, and fix things if they break, and hopefully they won't break for awhile But there's no sense in worrying about mileage and resale.
That's why I have never leased a car, I couldn't stand to drive around watching the odometer the whole time
Yeah not to worried about re-sale, guess I was just looking to see what kind of miles others were putting on in a year, and how long the bike would last before I needed to worry about a rebuild. I will ride every time it is possible and try even when its not.....

My '07 Wide Glide will be 2 years old the end of June and it just turned over 25,000. Guess it`s a little above the average mileage. Have had no problems whatsoever, do my own service and maintenance. I had close to 90,000 on the Wide Glide I had before the '07. Also no problems...

I'm averaging about the same miles as you...I picked up my '09 Street Bob the first weekend in Nov. and have 4070 miles on it in 6 months. Alot of guys are putting twice that amount per month and don't have mechanical issues at all with lots of miles on their bikes.
IMO, don't worry about rackin' up miles or resale value. Have fun and enjoy your ride.
Last year I put about 7500 miles on mine, and another 2500-3000 on the OL's Yamaha. I feel like the 7500 on mine was short, I should of rode about another 92500 miles
