cool thanks man i might try that anybody have any luck with the severe gear oil from amsoil the guy at the indy swears by it?
i have been running the severe gear oil in my trans for a couple years.i love it...i use 20/50 amsoil in the engine...i also run amsoil atf in my primary..i tell ya..it shifts really good,no whine, and the clunk is gone.....my bike is a 01 fxdl.........
When I changed over to HD syn3 at the 1K, it sounded like I had marbles in the case. Changed that out quick... run Mobil1-vtwin 20/50 now. Motor sounds fine.
Yup, thats exactly how my bike sounds.. I keep getting crazy paranoid thinking something is wrong with it. SOO, I ride with my ipod a lot and can't hear that. Problem solved.
I tried that Lucas oil additive, and it really didn't do much of anything. I run Mobil 1 20/50 in the engin, Formula + in primary, and Mobil 1 75/90 in tranny. I kinda want to try a different set up my next oil change. We'll see I guess.

you might try something in the 140 weight for you trans, I put AMS 75/90 in mine at my 1000 mile svs 2 months ago and 2800 miles later, I read a post from the AMS oil guy on this forum, saying that 90 weight oil might not be heavy enough so I went out and bought some 140W Bel-ray gear saver to put in, the 90W that came out was sparkled with little bits of metal, I don't know if this is from the trans still breaking in or if it from the light gear oil?

Hmm, I think I may just give it a try! Thanks for the suggestion. I think I actually have some 75/140w mobil 1 if I'm not mistaken. Bought it on accident thinking it was 75/90. lol..
put in there, It will take out some of that "thwack" sound you get when shifting. if you do change it take note of the old stuff and let me know if your lube is magnetic like mine was
The scary noise mine makes seems to come from the cam chest area. Doesn't seem to do it all the time, just for the first minute or so after firing up and I have to lean over to the right to hear it. Sounds a bit like marbles being spun around a tin can. I'm seriously considering opening it up and having a look. Not sure what to look for, though. Could this be the cam chain tensioner going out...cam bearings?
Ditto on that. My 05 is coming up on 10,000. I plan to change to Amsoil in all three holes. Currently running Syn 3. I worry about the cam chain tensioner too. I've read too many bad stories on this forum about failures pre-06 tensioners, I guess...
