I weigh 280 and dropped my rear preload down to 1 so the back end sits low and rides soft. It hardly ever bottoms out. I didn't use the spanner wrench the adjust it, all you have to do is put your bike on the mtorcycle jack to take the load off the back, and then grap firmly on the coil spring and the bottom chrome piece that has the adjustement holes in it and just twist really hard. It will pop every time you get to the next number of preload.

My handling gets a little funky if the preload is on the soft side. Anybody else feel this?

I'm 230 and usually have it on 3 for solo and 4 for 2 up.

mine handles great on 1, but since i dropped it, i found that if i lean too much going threw the curvy mountain roads i'll ocassionally scuff the heel of my boot on the road. ( i have forward controls)

Dunno the part number, went to the shop and purchased one. Our manual in Aussie (international version I think) doesn't even mention the bloody thing or the fact that it is adjustable and what the settings are ).

I have mine on 3 for just me and 5 for 2 up.

1 is the softest 5 is the hardest. You can see how the spring compresses with each step upwards. Rotation clockwise (from an above viewpoint) increases the preload. I think each number equates (very very roughly) to a weight increment, but I can't remember what that is. The best approach is to grab the spanner and test the settings with some riding.
