I too have been wondering about the numbers on the rear shocks and how to adjust them. I weight about 225 and have mine on 3, which I think is the factory setting. So from what you guys are saying 5 is the "hard" setting with 1 being "soft". I have looked through both the owners manual and the shop manual and found nothing on this subject. You would think that they would say something about this in these books. Another reason the internet is good place and forums like this exist.
i set mine to the 1 and i would drag a peg if you lean to much but it was soft . i have it on 2 now and going to see how that works .i may havta go to 3 with both of us on it.i got the spanner at the dealer for about 10.00 bucks and they are surppose to fit a few of the bikes .

thx for the feedback guys i adjusted them with a strap wrench a had worked good i raised thew bike on my lift and i could turn them 2 clicks by hand up then i used the strap wrench i went to 4 was set on 1 . Big difference no bottoming out on potholes anymore and the ridse wasent to stiff either big improvement yayay . i had a passenger on to same setting rode good. I think i'll put in 5 grade higher oil in the front when i change the oil this shoud stiffen then up a little not to much thou they bottom out to on big potholes.
