For two up riding, do I need to adjust the suspension from stock or will it be fine the way it is? If it needs to be adjusted, how do you do it? Thanks in advance.
Depends on how many pounds the sig. other is adding (and how much you contribute ) I believe the stock setting is three. I usually set mine to 4 for both single and two-up riding. I tend to like a little bit stiffer ride. I'm 210 lb and the wife adds another 125.
To change the setting, you could try and muscle it...or you could go to a harley dealer and pick up the shock wrench (forget what it's called...spanner???) It'll cost you about 10 bucks.
The shocks have a series of lobes on the inside of the spring. As you rotate the bottom of the shock a pin rides up the lobe till it drops in to a notch at the top of that lobe. Each lobe compresses the spring a little more. There are 5 positions on my 06 Dyna. After the last lobe it drops back to the first one.
Get a Shock wrench. You will save yourself some pain and scratched chrome.
Yes you can do the adjustment while on the kickstand. Usually 1 notch should do it for 2 up unless you're packed for a long trip.
It's really hard reaching down to adjust it while riding.
