I'm not one to choose sides in a HD vs Metric battle. I firmly believe what you ride matters less than if you ride. But seriously if you are worried at all about the depreciation of the HD why would you even consider looking at a Metric. With few exceptions they don't hold a candle to resale the of an HD especially in today's market.
wow...ictinike.... it's a good thing I don't take anything on the forum personally!
IMO there are way to many people buying / riding Harley's just to say they have one...
not sure what makes my skin crawl more... some old guy buying a HD so he can pretend to be Billy Badass or some young kid buying a sport bike so he can think he is a knee dragger!!!

I think the "Harley's hold their value" myth is false. I just bought mine used and saw people trying to get what they paid new for theirs. Guess what - none of them are selling. HD is subject to market value just like every other bike. Yes, metrics depreciate faster but HD still depreciate. People are too proud and don't realize that. Also, adding $4k of chrome to your bike doesn't make it worth $4k more.
LOL "thin the heard", hey, I wish I wasn't part of the heard!
Honestly... the Fat Bob was the only bike I wanted to buy to replace my Honda Shadow Sabre (POS bike, I'm telling ya. Never buy another Honda long as I live. But... the type of bike was correct I.E. Handing and such) My biggest issue getting a Fat Bob was, Harley people! I don't want to be one of you. I'm not a Harley fanboy. I hate the lot of you. You're morons x2.
Plenty of people own and ride Harleys because it's the best bike for them. I love those people. (They do make some nice bikes!)
Others "won't ride a bike if it's not a Harley" and they should all die in a fire. Drink the cool-aid boys. Harley is a publicly owned company, and most of the stock owners ARE NOT FROM HERE. Get over it. Just knowing someone might mistake me for one of "them" drives me nuts. Honest to god I wish my Fat Bob was made by Yamaha...
Ya know.. I am "one of them". I ride a Harley because it's a Harley. I'm proud to ride a Harley. My friends ride Yamaha and Honda V-Twins and they are my friends. Why don't you get rid of your Fat Bob and join a Kawasaki forum.

I don't believe that at all. My buddy up north has a '78 FLH w/ suicide shift and he is the original owner. He paid $3100 brand new, in 78. If you look up prices of a similar bike, it's in the 10-15k range, some even slightly higher.
First bike in 1975 was a 125 Yamaha. Second bike was a Yamaha 250. Easy to learn on, great mileage, cheap and fun. Harley doesn't make "starter" bikes, but I think they're going to push the Buell's to fill that gap along with the new Iron and 1200 they just launched. Kids today want bikes they dont have to take care of. My generation was used to spending hours polishing up our muscle cars and chrome until they gleamed...just to take them down the Blvd. on Friday and Saturday nights. That's when cars were made out of real steel and real chrome. Now everythings chrome colored plastic, paper thin steel and fiberglass. What a shame. But there will ALWAYS be Riders who will want a Harley. Why.....because the word HARLEY brings a certain image. You say I have a Honda or Yamaha....and the first thing you think of is lawn mowers, outboard motors, 4 wheelers or a Honda automobile. You say I have a HARLEY, and you KNOW what he means. Personally, if someone wants to ride, and his check book is thin......get what you can afford. I dont look my nose down at ANYONE, except those crotch rocket ninja's on the freeway weaving in and out of stop and go traffic at 90mph wearing sneakers. Those guys give motorcycling a bad name.

When I don't slam on my brakes fast enough as they're weaving in and out of stop and go, bumper to bumber traffic at 5pm on the freeway ....and in the process my bumper removs their foot from their leg, you would should be irate too. These kids think their invincible on those bikes and the cagers should watch out for them. I've come so close too many times and they are dangerous. Riding like that is ridiculous. Young rider wearing sneakers, no socks, in shorts and with no gloves on. That's who I shake my head at. Not the Mfg of the bike.
