Question here...I just took the bike in to have the Stage I upgrade. I decided to go with VH short shot staggered pipes, a heavy breather and the fuelpack. IT's been at the dealer since Friday. I called today and they said the bike was suffering from backfires. They said they were on the blower with VH to see if there was another code for this set up.
My question is...is this common? I was under the impression that Stage I was pretty straighforward and am suprised the shop had to call V&H for help. Any thoughts.
I don't think they should be calling for help, but that's just me. Seems a bit odd, but maybe there is reason for it.
The dealer did mine, and they are going to Dyno it for free at the 1k service (which I am past due for) to make sure there are no performance issues which they will callobrate free of charge. Mine have a minor pop here and there at real high RPM decel, but I sort of like it!
the fuelpak might not be set correctly to ur specific needs which is why they called v&h to see if they could put another map in or w/e they do..IMO the fuelpak gets mixed reviews, some people hate it, some people love it..Which is why I got myself a Power Commander, always read good reviews on them...BTW Welcome to the forums from PA, I'm going to be in RI very soon for a little vacation
I have the auto tune and my V&H pipes still had some backfire when coming off a lot of throttle, after I put in the BCT QQ baffles it went away completely.
Nice thats about 30 min from me, I'm going to be out by Newport and I'm going to go see more of those mansions out there, along with the chicks on the beaches WOOT LoL
I have the EXACT same setup and get little to no poping. Goto the Vance and Hines site they have the newest map for this setup. MAKE SURE the Fuelpak itself is the newer version. Shouldn't be doing that and DONT LET THEM RAPE you for labor because THEY are too stupid to figure this out!!!!

Creek, thanks for the insight. I followed up with the dealer and shared that nugget of info (Re codes on VH website) with them. Low and behold, bike should be ready for pick-up today, weather permitting and sucessful test ride.
They also said the labor for troubleshooting and remapping will be picked up by VH. I just pay the standard install. Will believe it when I am on the bike riding home happy.
One thing I had problem with is the Exhaust qasket would not seal using the Screaming Eagle gasket which is what the instruction call for. Use the stock gasket and it will seal. You might just ask them which one they used. A lot of us had this same problem and it would back fire until I changed back to the stock gasket.
