I got a freind who has an 85 WG with a 4speed trans and wants to know if there is a way to shorten the shifter throw on his bike?He has to lift his foot off the peg every time he shifts. He tryed to adjust it buy the rod& buy the spline @ the front arm.Are any parts available to change this to get a shorter throw?
Only input I have is where the shift rod connects to the front link, try to keep that point at the highest or top of the arc. That will be the shortest stroke. If it to far forward or back the rod either goes up or down while pushing back during its stroke. Hope this make since.
How short is the shift arm coming out of the transmission?
If you shorten it up the throw will be shorter, a lot of guys run the HD forwards with the stock arm coming off of the transmission to achieve the same result.
Moving the shift lever on the fwd shaft splines won't shorten the throw it just enables the foot to stay on the peg or minimal movement on the peg. I reallydon't think one can shorten the shift movement, it's all relative to the tranny shift lever's distance.
im not sure if this will give a shorter throw, but i changed my shifter mechanizim and got rid of the sloppy factory one.it made the shifter alot tighter and i didnt have to lift my foot off the pegs anymore.shoot me a private message ill try and find the link to the place i bought it.hope this will help
