Default Time & Temp, Formotion style

Not much to talk about with the bike in the shop. Was looking thru some of my pix and decided this idea was worth a thread. My Formotion gauges came with mounts intended to go on the clutch and brake perch clamps. They also sell handlebar P-mounts, too. Well, seeing/feeling the vibration that gets amplified and transmitted thru the bars, I figured that's the last place to be mounting delicate instruments. I took the mounting tangs that came with the two, and straightened them out from about 30-deg. bend, to about 10-deg. I also had to ream the holes out a bit larger to fit the console mounting screws. I like having them mounted aside the speedo...they look like they belong. The mass of the fuel, and the tank being solidly coupled to the frame makes vibration almost non-existent.

While I can identify with those who'd say, "When I'm riding, I wanna be free of schedules, clocks and time constraints", sometimes it's just handy to know. Mounted next to the speedo, you can always look at it as part of a speed/distance performance verification system. The thermometer comes in handy; if it's under 60, I know to put on my gloves. On our 11-state roadtrip last September, it saw extremes of 105 in the valley west of Yosemite one afternoon, and 28 the morning I woke up in Yellowstone.

Rook; here's a couple of side-views you asked for...

Nothing wrong with this set up. I think it looks like they belong there!

I have it in my car and find myself looking for it while I'm riding. Great idea.

Looks sharp! I've been looking at the same gauges, but hadn't thought about mounting them on the dash. I think that I'm going to add a compass to the handlebars while I'm at it. Thanks for the great picture and idea.

I don't have a close-up side view pic, and the bike is away at the shop for a few more weeks. They sit slightly angled, like the speedo itself. I'll dig thru my roadtrip pix to see if I might find a shot that shows something besides a face-on view.

Default A few more pix...

Closest I could come to a side view...

And some more face-on shots...

I mounted the clock and thermometer on my windshield; the outer most screws for the windshield trim. the turn signals (in the stock location) illuminate them nicely at night. I have the silver tone gage faces, not the dark ones. I haven't any picures with me, but will take a couple and post if anybody is interested in seeing that set-up.

I'd like to see your windshield mounts, Ex. I don't ride much in the dark, but when I do, I have to wait 'til I ride under a streetlight to read 'em. They do make luminescent face models, but the Classic series matched my speedo best. The forward running lights illuminating them on your windshield is a powerful incentive to mount them there, if ya ride much at night.

The clock is like any quartz watch; has some kind of wafer battery inside. I think the back unscrews when it's time to change it. The thermometer is oil-filled; it'll register way high if it's sitting in the sun for any length of time. Seems that if you're rolling, it doesn't matter if it's in direct sunlight. I'm very happy with both units.
