Default Primary leak making me nuts!

Lookin for some advice from you guys. My primary inspection cover keeps seeping, from the last fluid change and now again with new fluids and another new gasket. I have forward controls and the mid control stuff has been removed so it's just an HD cover on there.

The damn primary drain plug loves to drip too, any tips to stop that? Thanks

Uneven mating surfaces that the gasket can't compensate for ?

For the plug, maybe a small application of teflon tape. I say that, because obviously the threads and sealing device are not doing their job. That and if a little teflon gets in the primary case, no big deal. Wouldn't recommend it for engine applications though.

It might not be the primary plug. Could be the shifter shaft between the tranny and primary. This will drip right down to where the primary plug is and look like it is leaking from there.

Yeah I probably need to sand down the inspection cover to smooth out the edges.

I put teflon tape on the drain plug bolt and a new o-ring and it still drips.

Like mentioned, take a close look at the shifter shaft plug/hole.

Not sure if you can get to it, but I would check for cracks around the plug hole also.

If you sand the insp cover surfaces, make sure you use something like 330 or finer, and a block to sand with.

Do you get the correct torque on the drain plug, if at sometime the plug was over tightened it can crack the outer primary cover.

its probally the inner primary shaft seal... oil runs down the back of the primary and drips off the plug

Use a small mirror and flashlight, look up to the shifter shaft that goes into the transmission case. Any oil getting past the oil seal will go right to the plug on the bottom of the primary, thus making it look like the plug is leaking. If thats not the case then there may be a crack in the primary case where the drain plug goes in. The plug is a tapered pipe plug going into a straight tapped hole. The fix for the oil seal requires the inner primary case to be removed and most everthing in the primary, sorry for the doom and gloom.

I have had the inner primary seal replaced twice in 10K on my 07. It showed up both times as a drip from the primary drain plug but looking up and behind, it was coming from above.

New o-ring and don't over tighten the new one, it tears up the o-ring. I keep 3 o-rings in my tool box for all three holes incase i need one.
