Installed a H-D removable backrest on my 2008 Dyna Wide Glide. Has a vibration (very noisy). Removed the assembly checked uprights and the
back rest for tightness. Seems the docking hardware where the sideplates attach may be the source. I cannot seem to solve the problem. Any help???? Thanks
I had the same issue. Check the fender support on the inside of the fender, mine was loose enough to rattle. I had to take the support off and add a couple of washers to tighten everything up.
Interesting. The removable docking hardware for the backrest on my 09 fits so tight that it's almost a pain to remove the damn thing.
It looks to me that when the bolts are snugged up into the bracket, the bolts are skewed out of alignment with each other, so the docks on the backrest don't fit square.
Have the plastic docks (the round pieces on the studs) worn at all so they're oblong instead of round?
Sorry, I did not explain that very well. I should have said the threads on the bolt were not long enough to pull the plate inside the fender up tight to the fender. The threads ended but the bolt still needed to be tighter. I added some rubber coated washers and that allowed me to tighten everything up and stopped the metal mount from rattling against the metal fender.

I have the exact same problem. everytning is mounted correctly and tight but the quick point is where it rattles. I had to wrap the inside of the mounting stud with black tape. It took care of the problem but it is a real beach to remove.

That is exactly the issue with yours (and mine). I took the teardrop washer off and ground it at an angle to let the bolt/mount assembly pull straight. Works much better, but still not optimum. I'm still fine tuning it.
Mine used to rattle until I got the touring seat. The passenger pillion is so wide it pushes on the plates and keeps it quiet. Eventually it will wear the seat but it's rare that I run it so it should last a long time.

Yep, that cured mine too. It only take one little wrap, if ya put on too much it's way too hard to remove the backrest.
