Looking to do a new bike for the wife. She kinda likes the softail deluxe or heritage, but I am not a big fan of the 88B for highway driving. She likes the heavier front tire that they offer. She also is kind of fond of the Street Bob. Anyone here ever put a wider front tire on a Dyna? What would be involved? I was wondering if the mods would be simple, or if I would have to but on a wider fork, and possible change the triple tree. Anyones experience or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Besides, I think the Street Bob, with no front fender and nice fat tires would look sick!
There's a FXD FL front end conversion in the DIY section of the forum. Looks just like a late 60's-'84 chopped FLH. Slapping a 16" front would certainly look killer on a bob with the mid-glide front end and maybe a 7" Headlight.
I would think a brake upgrade would be a necessity with a 150. As much as I love a 21 inch front, I also like the added rideability and safety of a wide front tire. 21 x 2.15 is so damn narrow for going over steel bridges or just general road tar, etc. Sounds like your working on an Exile bike.
Hell yeah, fat tire dynas are beautiful creatures. ive got a 96 wideglide im putting a 21x3 frontire tire and rim running no fender. i dont know if the bobs are mid or wide frnt ends, but you should be safe without a brake upgrade and only shimming if necessary either way. the fender on the other hand could be tricky, but im not fond of the harley reiveted fenders anyway.
Is yours riveted? if you feel the same way it could a great reason to change...
When I converted my '05 WideGlide to a trike the differential caused a slight wobble in the front.Since I had the rear wheel and tire anyway I removed the front wheel and fender and put the rear on the front.I had to reverse it and use the front brake rotor with the mounting holes drilled out to 3/8".Also had to space the wheel to the right 1/16".I wanted a fender on it so I put a Metzeler 140 rear tire on it and an '05 Fatboy fender. The heighth is 1/4" lower in the front and it handles and rides great with no more wobble.Donnie
