I took off my Street Bob stock Tank emblems today and replaced them with the 60's ones. While they look better, they fit poorly. The 3M tape on back of the mounts was thin and not evenly placed. Even with cleaning the tank, shaping the mounts, pressing them on and then reattaching the emblems, the front and backs are not flush with the tank. They are not going to come off, but they don't look good. Sorry I did it, the Harley dealer ones are cheap, and as tinny as the stock ones were, they fit better. The part numbers I used were:
61783-92T Adapter Kit, and 62769-47T Fuel Tank Trim. The Tank Trim is flimsy. If I replace these I will go back to the stock, use a decal, or find a smaller one piece that is not affected by tank curvature. Spent a lot of time doing it carefully and they are evenly spaced but if I had paid someone to do it would be upset.
Also as others have noted, except for putting the removed ones on your garage wall or kids wagon, I don't think you could reuse them on another bike. They bend easily.
Oh and if you use a heat gun and some fishing wire you should be able to take the stock ones off without any bending. Then if careful enough you can remove the old tape, well enough to put new tape on it and reapply it if you wanted.
I used a hair dryer, but I think not hot enough. Also used doubled up dental floss, but they still bent a little. I think a heat gun would have been hot enought to melt them off the tank and allow the backing to stay in the badges.
The new ones are still attached but the front and rear are about 1/8 to 1/4 inch off the tank. I might be able to take them off bend them some more and get some more 3M tape.
Just don't feel like pressing my luck at the moment. They look good from a distance. Tomorrow will take some pictures.
On a side note, always check all your bolts. Lost the left rear Kurkakyn rider peg today. Allen holding it on loosened up. Went back checked my route, but its gone. I was not really crazy about them, but had not planned on throwing one away. though I used loctite but may it was blue and I should have used red.
