Question chrome cam cover

I want to replace my stock (aluminum) cam cover with a Harley chrome one. How much of a job is it to do the swap? Also, does the sensor cover,(the small round one), have to be drilled out? I plan on replacing this as well.

Pull your exhaust and pull the cover. Put a new gasket on and bolt it back on. Very simple. Pulling the exhaust is most of the work.

The cam cover just bolts on. You will loose a few ounces of oil. The timer cover is held on with torx bolts and comes right off.

or they make chrome covers that go over the stock aluminum one. I got one to see if it looked alright and wound up keeping it, it looks great. they are about 50 on ebay and worth the money if you dont want to hassle with removing everything and changing out gaskets.

Hey, Sorry to stick my nose into this but can i ask.. Does this also apply to the 1340 Evo engine ? I had been told that i had to take the pushrods out from the top to change the cam cover on my EVO. Is this the case or is it as simple as you state here ???

I changed mine. You do not have to pull the exhaust if you use a long ball head allen wrench. I went to Harbor Frieght and bought a set of 6" long ball head allen wrenches for a 3/8" drive rachet for $14.00 and the job went smooth as silk.

Easy job after you remove the exhaust. Just be careful when you torque the bolts when installing the new cover. Easy to strip the threads if you over torque - don't ask me how i know.

Does anybody know what the torque specification is on those cam cover bolts? (if so I could use the spec on the primary cover also)

I'm going to try mine with the ball head allen wrenches and just loosening the exhaust.
