I purchased a fixed back rest and sudowner seat with my 2008 FXD. I don't like the look and decided to change seats (went with the sidekick)
Question-can the backrest be converted to detachable with purchasing just the detachable plate part # 52124-09 Detachable Sideplates - Gloss Black
Do I need to buy a brand new system? thanks!
I'd like to disagree with you, Grind. I had rigid sideplates and they were a b!tch to put in and a b!tch to take out, especially the way they fit in between the strut and the fender. The word of the day is TIGHT. I'd imagine sliding them in and out, you'd have a pretty good chance of doing some damage to the paint on the fender.
Yes, notching rigid sideplates is much cheaper but the detachable mounts with sideplates definitely works much better, to me anyway.
OP, the bolts that are now in your struts will be replaced with detachble docking points. Very easy to install. A lil dab of blue lok-tite and tighten them down.
By the way, that's how NOT to install them. That spacer goes inside.
I sure like the BLACK that you added to your bike. Just needs black exhaust is all I can see. Wish I knew something to tell you about the back rest but mine the Detachable one. It is starting to vibrate so theres always something to Tweak on
