Hey guys, The weather has been pretty good lately and have got in a few miles. Once it turns Swellterring Hot I'm going to pull her back in the basement where my beer will stay cool. I plan on changing out the HD Syn 3 that the Dealer put in each hole to a better choice of oil. I do have the manual and I'm sure it will say but Do you guys use Loctite on the 5 Torx screws and anything else I should know when changing out all three holes. Thanks for the help.
New gasket for the derby cover and new O-rings for the drain plugs. I don't loctite the derby cover screws, I didn't see it being used in the book either.
yes loc tite the derby cover! if not they will vibrate out and leak... you only need new gaskets if the original one is torn up... they are rubber man and last a long time, i replace my o rings ever 2 changes... i have done over 6 oil changes on my scoot and have used the same gasket without any problem. (granted mine is made to work wiht my custom derby cover... but never the less. if it is still in good shape you are fine)
Thanks for the quick replys.
Joe, I hear about a lot of guys having trouble with the Torx screws and stripping them out. Was it you who suggested a while back to take a center punch and strike the screw once and it then will come out, if not do you think it would hurt anything to do this.
No loctite needed, IMO. Getting them out is tough enough sometimes, no need to compound the problem. In 75k miles, mine have never vibrated loose and/or leaked. I still have the original quad-ring (gasket).
if you use loctite... use a lil dab of blue. you wont have any problem removing blue loctite if you use it sparingly. now that red ****... thats a different story!
