Default where to start???

Well ive had my bike for about a week now just broke a hundred miles its been raining here every day. During all this time ive been doing a lot of thinking. Here is were all you come in....I have no idea where to start on my bike. This is my first Harley and I guess I want to save my self time by just jumping in and putting things on one part at a time. I know there are some combo things that one can be done before the other to save the time and money of having it removed to replace the other. I pretty much want to chrome it out as much as possible. Im going to have the 2-up seat, sissy bar, I would like driving lights, forward controls, drag pipes and all the other goodies. I was wonder where all of you started and what you have learned along the way. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What I have learned is that chrome is more of a headache then it's worth.

put your money into the engine. Get a new set of pipes, high phlow AC, comfy seat, then ride it!

put a few miles on it and enjoy it first....make sure you have some sort of direction when throwing moeny into your bike...you may end up like a lot of riders that get "chromitis" and thier bike looks like a shiney piece of ****.....have a theme in mind and go from there....i would suggest you do functional upgrades first....if you have spokes, goto a nice set of harley wheels...for 1240.000 you can do the wheels and a set of floating rotors...or take about 230 bucks and get yourself a set of progressive rear shocks and front springsets....THE BEST MONEY YOU PUT INTO A DYNA BAR NONE.....the stock shocks suck..plain and simple...with the progressivce setup you'll think your on an air ride suspension....for that you goto www.phatperformanceparts.com and talk to matt or terry...great guys and best prices on most stuff...best service for sure.....then goto a better fitting set of bars...i got the street slammer bars because the apes for me just dont do it but to each his own....braided lines make a big braking difference....the reason i know all this **** si becasue i just did it all to my bike...i bought my bike with a 117 hp motor and had all the stock setup that being wheels, suspension, bars, brakes and seat....with those changes made i have a bike i can take on a 650 mile trip one way and when i get there i feel fresh and ready to party or ride when i get there.....for me if a bike looks good and isnt comfortable who cares what it looks like....function over form

I always a good start is with the service manual. The more you know the better...IMHO

personally I am a chrome-fan... but make your bike yours...and ride!!

In my experience, I've found that the place to start depends on two major factors: $$$$$ & Patience. Also, I definately agree with Geronimo, make your bike your own. No matter where you begin, start with your vision of where you want it to go, and go from there. My $.02

What everyone else said.....just take your time.

You'll know when you see something you want. All our bikes are different because we made them/making them that way.

It's an ongoing project.

J&P Cycles catalogue is a good place to start. I keep one in my "Office" (Crapper) LOL

Generally people who don't like chrome fall into two categories...those who can't afford it and/or those who are too lazy to clean it.

Humans like shiny things...I don't know why but that's just how it is. Why do you think women are attracted to big shiny rings? Diamonds aren't rare by any stretch of the imagination.

Go in any direction you want with your bike. There's not really one place that's good to start over another. It really all depends on how much you want to spend and how much work you can do yourself as opposed to paying someone to do it for you. Generally stuff you can do yourself tends to get done before the stuff that can't. Just start thumbing through the catalogs and pick a few simple items out and then go from there.
