Saddlebags look terrible on a Super Glide, Street Bob or Low Rider. They'd look awful on your bike too. They are okay on Fat Bobs as Fat Bobs are ugly anyway. I use a detachable sissy bar (from Harley-Davidson). If I have to go somewhere overnight or for a day or two, I have a Kuryakyn "roll bag" that attaches to my detachable sissy bar.
I just bought a set of bags from LeatherPros for my ride. I love them. NO brackets or standoffs required and they on/off in about 10 seconds each with cam levers. Thefit and finish is awesome, and IMHO they really follow the lines of the bike. I highly reccomend them.
I have no affiliation with LeatherPros just a sartisfied customer.

Get some 8 to 9 oz. leather, some thread, needles, snaps and dye (the leather supply outlet store will tell you what you need (they even have instruction books with patterns) and design your own for whatever part of your bike you want it on....not that hard...if I can do it you can too. It sounds like for your needs just a small thin saddle type bag only on one side would do.
I had a solo bag for my Sportster but you need to remove the passenger peg mount to mount it properly, I use a small roll bag on my Dyna, not a lot of room but very handy. The leather roll bag from www.bikersfriend.com looks like a good quality roll bag and its available in different sizes.
I use canves through-over bags from Drag. You need to mount brackets...so they're a pain in the rear. I only us them for weekend trips. A backpack is my everyday gear.
