RE: fork springs
My brother has an '05 FXDLI and he had the same problem. He had someone do some work on the front forks and the suspention was mushy. He and I changed the oil in each fork tube and added the right amount of oil and the right type. The guy that did his work might have but engine oil instead of fork oil. That might be you problem. Might not have the right amount of oil.

RE: fork springs
I had a '97 WG. Best thing I ever did on that bike (and I did a lot of stuff) was put a Race Tech suspension on the front. It rode like a completly differant bike. After I did it I said, "So that's what it's supposed to ride like!".
As sson as they are available, I will be buying them for my new bike.
