It's always a trade off durability vs. adhesion. You want those puppies to hug the pavement and take you around laying down curves at 90....sure but the extra adrenaline will cost you, and the extra rubber will be the price of admission !
I got 10000 on my first set of stockers, and went for another set,but this time I will check my tire pressure more often. My HD tek caught me last year with 24/front and 28 /rear .check those babies once a week!
ya its bald as crap at 9100 miles,,i mean bald,,im trying to save it till my 10000 service but chit i dont think its going to make it!!!!!!
Considering I'm only on 2 tires, when my tires won't channel water,I change them. That was probably a few thousand ago for yours.....Also, There is no rule that the 10,000 mile service needs an odometer that reads EXACTLY 10,000 miles. Just have it done now.

Exactly! Do not risk your life on a bad tire. Get the service done early. It is better to have it done early then late. Also, alway check your air pressure, it can make a difference on the life of a tire.
The other thing to remember..... FLATS SUCK ! ...... Over the past 10 years I have pulled a few screws about this size :
out of my tire and fortunately there was enough depth to the tread that the tire/tube was unaffected. I know some people like to see how many miles they can put on a tire, but if you have a little meat on it you stand a better chance of getting away with picking up some of the smaller stuff out there.
I had 11500 on my stock tire and I just replaced it. I probably could have gotten another 1000 or so out of them, but I am riding out to Sturgis and did not want to have to get a tire on the road. The new tire is a ME880 and feels much better on the bike. It could very well be that is because my last tire was almost shaped like a square due to all the highway driving I do. When I went for a test drive after mounting the tire I about laid the bike over in a turn as it was much easier to lean with the Metz. Could be a better tire or it could be it was actually round
Lol...I know this has been discuused many times, but it amazes me that alot are getting 10K+ out of the stock rear tire. I'll be real lucky to get to 7K on mine.
I check tire pressures every 3-4 days...30/38 cold and NO WAY I can get that kind of mileage.
Since we are on the topic of tire wear, has anyone tried any of the dual compound tires that Dunlop or others have out now? I thought about buying one but I could not find it in the right size and I was not sure how it would do on a heavier bike.
