Put my short shots on last night. It got to be late and I first started my bike up this morning. While I like the sound and it's totally loud and obnoxious, I'm not sure my neighbors or the local Sheriff will be amused. Are a lot of you putting the baffles in to quiet these pipes down ?
I just put the quiet baffles on my bub7 2/1 and passed between a truck and a cop who was on the sidewalk all at a red light, and he didn't even turn around. They are almost too quiet. A great howlin growl if I crack out but idling sounds not much louder than stock. i'm thinking to take out the baffle and remove most of the wrap. The stock bub baffle was 2.5 inches of powerful grunt,i have to find that in-between level! Just remember your right hand volume control. The thing with the quiet baffle is i can crack it without being obvious about speeding!
When I first installed the Straightshot slipons... and fired her up... I looked around half expecting people standing on their porches scowling at me...
I installed the quiet baffles a week later.
The quiet baffles will actually give you back some of the low end torque you lost, take the edge of the sound pulse, and deepen it just a bit.
I have the quiet baffles in mine and the locals (UK) don't complain. Of course when I put the loud baffles in, I started to get comments. Just for grins, I took the baffles out, and it was uncomfortably loud for me....and I work around jet engines.
Just my experience for you to reference if you so choose.

Interesting story. A friend of mine and I were out early this year w/ a couple of other buddys down in New Hope, Pa. We were all sitting there, in traffic, at idle. I've got an '04 Wide Glide, and he's got an '03 Road King. We've both goth Straight Shots on, mine w/o baffles, his w/ baffles. As we're sitting there, this fine member of the local LE comes strolling by. As he's walking by, he takes a look at my bike and my friend's bike (we were on the curb side). Next thing you know, he pulls out this sound meter. A minute or so later, he gestures to my buddy and I to pull over to the curb. Takes readings, and proceeds to write us both tickets. Seems there's a sound law in town (although, no signs posted when you're entering town). Anybody that's been to New Hope, knows that the sole job of the LE folks is to generate $$$ for the town. So, w/ $85 tickets in hand, my buddy and I ask him about it. The LEO says "those pipes are known to be over the limit." His reading was 88.9 db and mine was 89.1 db. Doesn't look like those baffles do much.
Actually, the difference between "no baffles" and "standard baffles", is very little. I'm not surprised at the dB reading, showing very little diff between the two.
The difference between "standard baffle" and the "quiet baffle" is quite a bit.
New Hope if full of idiots anyway they have nothing better to do down there, trust me I've read enough of it in our local paper and seen enough on the tv, thats probably one of the only towns I wouldnt go into anyway, I heard they had a nice rally down there but now its gone, so screw that place
Back on the subject I have the standard baffles in mine and love they way it sounds maybe a bit raspy but I like it, and I always wanted to see what they sounded like without them..And i rly dont care what the ppl think I'll ride my bike the way I want to but I am respectful when in communities etc
