You might want to check out Top Down Products Roto-Plate, they have one without lights.

Fab Kevin makes one that you can switch from vertical to horizontal by loosening two nuts.

I like the plate in the bag idea, but would be illegal in most states, you have to have a light on the plate. Overcome that without looking hokie and I think you have something.

I went back and forth relocating my plate...I decided on a side mount finally and I'm glad I stuck with it..

Not a difficult task to overcome if the bags are not detachable. Not difficult to overcome if the bags ARE detachable but just one moe thing to remember to unplug/plug-in. A couple of l.e.d.s to light it up and you're golden.

Sidemount tag works if you NEVER plan on running saddlebags. Otherwise, your bag will hide the tag so you're stuck trying to figure out where to relocate it to so it's not hidden. Some states have laws that the tag has to be centered on the vehicle.

Unfortunately it is Lion. Having an 11mos old will cause that more often than I care to admit. I will hopefully be meeting an HDF member, Tide, today as he rolls through SC on his way to Canada, from Florida. Now that's a ride. That means I'm riding about 2hrs west to meet him somewhere off I-77.
