I don't have any rust on mine...one thing you should ask yourself is if you had driven your bike with salt on the roads from the winter. After winter I wait for the rain to wash the salt of the roads before riding. When I don't wait, I will wash the rims really good after a ride when I know there is salt on the roads. If this isn't it...then you should go to the dealer and file it under the warranty.

Wheels need as much if not more attention when detailing your bike. I have a 06' FLHRCI with 25K and every now and then I see some rust starting(and I keep it outside under a good cover). I use 0000 steel wool and a polish and it takes it right off. Before I replaced the wheels on my Low Rider with Arlen Ness chrome wheels the wheels on it were...well a mess from inattention (live and learn).

It's not just Harley's the wheels on my Triumph Speedmaster went off pretty fast. +1 on parking them on carpet and for powder coating. I am getting my Bob's powder coated at some stage I spend way too long on cleaning those wheels.

I'm sure rusting chrome in not exclusive to Harleys. The last time I had a MC with chrome rims was a 1973 Kawasaki Z1 and the chain kept the rear wheel well oiled. Even though I might consider changing to clear coated polished Al I had one bike that had the Al pit. At least with the chrome I can wax out the rust. The pits in the Al were there forever. This
Al was not clear coated. The clear coated wheels on my 7 year old vette look new so this type of wheel may be in my future.

I tend to give my wheels and spokes a quick wipe down with a duster after each ride, you can see the dirt and dust on the cloth, Takes but a few minutes to do, but it seem's to work for me as I've had no rust or corrosion issues to date, (08 FXDC ), I also give the wheels a good clean each time I wash the bike.
