Angry Loose Ignition Switch 2008 Dyna FXDL

I went to put my key in and the whole ingnition switch was loose! Is this an easy fix or should I take it to the Stealer for warrenty repair? I also noticed that the rear edge of my rear and front finder has chipped paint and is rusting! WTF? It wasn't there two days ago? How does this happen!? Is this a warenty issue?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Not sure about the ignition switch, as I don't have a Low Rider.

But I would bet the chipped paint won't be covered under warranty. I have a small chip on my front fender also, and I know exactly how/when it happened. You could hear the rock hitting it when it happened. Small pieces of gravel or any other road debris can cause the chips, just like any other vehicle.

Most manufactures call this environmental hazards, and are not covered by any warranty.

Now, that being said if you can convince them that there was a defect in the paint that would cause this, then it could very well be covered.
Not too many paint jobs will stand up to rock chips though, so it might be hard to convince them.

If the dealership is within a convenient distance, take it back to them for the ignition repair. If not, it is an easy fix.

There is an adhesive label trim ring on the switch. Heat it up with a blow dryer or heat gun, then carefully pry it off. It is thin metal, so be careful. Once you have removed this ring, you will see the collar which secures the switch assembly. This collar is threaded on the switch to hold it secure in the frame. You will see two opposing indentations on the collar. Spread a pair of needle nose pliers, placing the tips in these indentations to tighten the collar. There should be enough remaining adhesive to replace the trim ring you removed.

Cool Loose ignition

Thanks for the advise. The dealer is close, so I'll take it there.

Thanks again

Is your switch a fork lock/ switch? if so you have a three minute fix. Mine has only the fork lock in that pos. but you only need a sharp blade to edge under the decal ( the thing with the little graphic that says lock or unlock) peel that out gently and behind there you will find a round piece with four holes. first lock your fork lock for stability I then stick a needlenose pliar into 2 holes and turn counter clockwise it tightens up and you stick the graphic back on. VOILA! And save yourself a trip to the dealer who is going to point you out as a noob!

Mine did this the other day. Now this morning riding in to work the motor was cutting in an out like turning the switch on and off quickly.
