oil leak

oil leak
hi all, I have just noticed a oil leak from where the two wires leave the left hand side of the engine to the voltage regulator it looks like a simple rubber bung with the wires coming from the middle. it looks like i may need to replace this bung is this a big job if thats what i need to do. ho its a 02 wideglide thanks trev

If that is the left side as you are sitting on the bike, then it sounds like the wires that connect the stator to the regulator. I am pretty sure that the rubber plug is molded on to the wires or at least it is on my 06 WG, the only difference is that mine has three wires. Whether the plug is replaceable or even the entire set of wires and plug is replaceable I do not know. I recently replaced my stator and the wires look as if they might be soldered to the stator coils. You cannot really see the connection well enough to tell and the install instructions treat them as though they are not meant to be removed from the stator. As madghost suggested, try to clean the area and see if the oil returns.
