My take from all I have read is that while adequate it is not the best. I have soley used Royal purple 20/50 in engine and 75/90 in the trans/primary chain case. Others swear by red line in the tranny and chain case.
My dealer only has only those 2.after warrenty over i will
go for moblie 1 v twin.but for now, if HD synthetic isnt good,
or not worth , it i will stand with reg...
1) Using any oil that meets the MoCo's recommendations will not affect your warranty! There are many 'real' synthetics that meet requirements.
2) Syn3 is a blend of Dyno and Synthetic oils. Running Dyno only will not damage your engine, but many will say that synth will extend the life of your engine - I run Mobil-1 or AMSOIL.
3) It's been said on this forum that HD buys their oil from Citgo (a product of Venezuela). I for one will not buy any product from Mr. Chavez.
This forum can be quite useful.
It can also be entertaining.
It's fun to see mods that others have done.
I'd guess that some good friendships are made as well.
That's all good .... now the bad .....
Asking a question about what oil to use is kind of silly.
It's been discussed and beat to death about a million times.
google harley synthetic - you'll actually get links to hdforums.
You'll also get enough to read for the next 2-3 months - maybe more.
Generally - it's all subjective information.
All posts regarding oil preference or quality in any of the general forums should automatically be deleted.
Flame on - But this place would be better off without these posts.

if people would stop writing thier opinion instead of answer the question
or posting thier comment ,that would make it alot better too...the post than would go to an other page and you wouldnt have to cry about seening it..
I know the oil subject has been beat to death, but for FATBOB's benefit:
Syn3 was kinda noisy.
Mobil1 V-Twin much better and can be had at WalMart for decent price.
Amsoil even better. Cooler and quieter than both of the above

Hey FAtts long time no hear! syn three is a blend of synth and regular oil 50/50. I used it once and the service tek was laughing under his breath and said sure syn3 it is! The next change he forgot and used reg HD oil.So it isn't true that switchig from reg to syn will eat up your gaskets.
I don't know what I was waiting for but now I change the oils myself.Next inspection, if still under warrenty ,I will bring them the bike with the oils already changed...It costs about 70 with the oil and filter, but at least you know it's done right and it will cut at least 100$ off your inspection bill.
As for sewing machine nois I'm using amsoil full syn.20/50 and i still hear it,it may not be as loud but I know it's there so we will always hear it.....hey my car makes noise I turn up the radio!!!
