Yes, I know exactly what you mean about builds. I loved the Fat Bob, but It was so wide where the tank was, I couldn't get my legs past the primary and pipes to get them down. Yes, the seat was lower....but the bike was wider.
Just a heads up........THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED THE LOW RIDER FOR model year 2010. So if you found one, and want one......now MIGHT be time to grab one while you still can find them. I dont know if they're coming out with something to replace it for us vertically challenged riders. The ONLY other choice for us MIGHT be a Softail Deluxe.....but they are heavier by around 100 pounds, and at my age and strength, it might be too heavy to handle.

Hummm...salesman didn't tell me this was the last year for the Low Rider. May be another reason to snap one up!

Funny how many people told me to get a Low Rider when I said I was short and had a problem with the "fit" of most of the big twin models. It actually is NOT the lowest model. Whenever I sat on one, it didn't feel quite right. Then I sat on a Street Bob and it was ALMOST a perfect fit. I could ride it just fine, but had a heck of a time backing up. (As some have pointed out, height alone is not the only thing to consider - it's the length of your legs is key, plus some bike models are wider than others (or their seats are).

Anyway, I did a couple things. First was to get a customized C&C seat - they took their regular "solo" seat and modified it to be slightly lower, and slightly narrower in the front. I love the looks, and also it definitely helped me get a better footing. (And their customer service is second to none!!)

I bought boots with just a little more height on the heel than my previous boots (maybe about 1/2")

I bought some 1" lowering blocs from a forum member here who wasn't using his anymore. (VERY easy for my hubby to install)

All those things make it so now I only sometimes have a little hard time backing up if I happen to be on an incline the wrong way, or sink into a dip as I'm backing up. But even in those instances, learning a couple techniques to help me back up, coupled with the changes I made, I am 99% independent of someone having to help me move my bike.

I did those three changes for little over $400. If I had to pay full price for the lowering blocs, it would have been closer to $500 which still would have been worth it. I didn't do the changes all at once, but it was relatively a small price to pay to make the bike fit me.

Oh - one more thing. My hubby got a Mustang Vintage Solo for his E-Glide and it definitely dropped him lower and moved him forward. If you contact Mustang directly they will tell you what the seat will do on a particular model.

+1 on that, you can compare the seat height specs on HDs web site.

The lowest solo seat that pushes you forward, I think, is the Lepara bare bones up front. A thinly padded narrow seat that many like. Because there is some extra padding in the "backrest" that pushes you forward its not as uncomfortable as the regular BB. They are very well made and look good.

Great for around town, some can ride for hours on it. I supplement with a small airhawk cushion for those longer rides.

As others have mentioned, there are suspension adjustments too. Seats are usually less money, however.
