Default seating and reach problems

picked up my chicks new 09 streetbob yesterday and she cooks her leg trying to reach the forward controls, barely touches the ground with her 5'1 self wearing boots. any ideas on a seat that will push her forward and get her lower to the ground. have to get a better pipe, considering a big radius 2 into 1. anyone know if its cooler by means of radiant heat.

Just google reach seats for harley dyna's.Alot of the higher end low profile seats may take her 2 to 3 inches down if she has the SB stock solo seat on there now. the reach seats put the hump in the seat forward so she is closer to the pegs, but may gain some height I'm not sure.
No matter the pipes theyre all at least 350 degrees give or take anyway! you touch it burns instantaneously! Cooler no, not really.
though with my current air cleaner and exhaust I am a little cooler, that tommy gun exhaust ran horizontally under the air cleaner and that stock air cleaner was getting hot enough to cook on.

Check out the other thread going on right now also:

I don't get much radiant heat from my V&H2-1 pipe... it's pretty nice in that regard... all other regards as well, I really like the pipe.

Get shorter shocks. 11.5" shocks will drop the bike quite a bit, and for her you should also get the progressive lowering springs/kit for the front as well.

archergodwin.........
Couldn't have said it better myself!!! I felt (literally) this gal's pain and overall frustration with a bike that doesn't quite fit. And, it can be DANGEROUS too. A bike that doesn't fit is an accident waiting to happen.

I had my dealer increase the mixture ratio to run a little richer. The EPA made them lean it out so much, it add's to the heat. Since I put the V&H Double Barrel Q Series on mine..... it's run a lot cooler and I find I'm not getting 2nd degree burns ( what it felt like) on my right calf anymore. On 90 degree days......I had to stick my foot out to get it cooled off. So I know what she's feeling. I coulnd't reach forward controls....so I have to settle for mids. How she can reach hers being 5'1"???? is amazing. Maybe she can get some
extensions that actually bring the pegs closer to her. I believe both Harley and Kuryakyn make something like that.

Just curious as to why it came with forwards in the first place?

i had the dealer put the forward controls on for me because i like to ride it once in awhile and it was to tight a fit. thanks for the advise for the lower type seats and shorter shocks. i'll be making some purchases today.

FYI, The lowest solo seat that pushes you forward, I think, is the Lepara bare bones up front. A thin narrow seat, but because there is some padding in the "backrest" not as uncomfortable as the regular BB. They are well made.

I have the same problem. I'm 5'9" with short legs.

I tried a reach seat and it was useless. It was hard and uncomfortable and made my **** ache after about half an hours riding. It didn't seem to move my feet forward at all.

I ended up refitting the original seat. The reach seat was a waste of money and I sold it on eBay.

I solved the problem this way:

I moved the pegs rearwards and upwards by using the 2 inch Kuryakyn male mount lockable offets (Kuryakyn part no 7936) and iso pegs. I then fitted a larger wide glide brake pedal (8029) and longhorn shift peg (8021).

Lowering the bike will solve the height problem. The reach problem doesnt seem to be her or the bike. It seems to be you. Is it her bike? If so, why would you make it difficult/uncomfortable/dangerous for her to ride it just so you can be comfortable when you ride it "once in a while"?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, sorry if it comes out that way. It just doesnt make sense to me. A 5'1" rider should not have forward controls! They should have mids with highway pegs mounted in the forward position.

RedRubi..... I totally agree with your analogy. Like I said in my earlier post.... an ill fitting bike, especially for a gal ( like me) is an accident waiting to happen. She'll either drop it, it will get away from her or she wont be able to make an emergency stop safely.
Lower the bike for her via 11" or 11'5 Progressives or similar shocks........AND lower the front end as well, put mids back on for her and get her some wider foot pegs with a heel rest ( KURYAKYN DUALLY ISO with Stirrups, and probably a kick stand extension tip so she can catch it with her foot. Then she'll be in 7th heaven and be a safer rider.
