Default Doing some servicing... pulled primary...

and found this:

Don't know if its a brass washer, or piece of a bushing.... anybody with a parts manual have a exploded view of a 08 or equivalent primary drive.... and if you do, is there a brass washer/shim anywhere in the mix?

thanks....

Yeah, now gotta figure out where the hell they came from....

Chain tensioner looks fine:

All of the pieces were directly under the tensioner area, so I'm initially thinking that's where they came from.... 'course they could have come from about anywhere in there, and were just deposited in that area due to decrease oil flow through that area, like a pocket or something.....

Chain feels fairly tight, but looks like I am getting a little slap up front at the bottom:

I may just need to get the dremel, and relieve that area just a little bit..

Rich,I just looked through my 06 parts manual and I see no brass anywhere. The last time you were in there was to replace your clutch release plate right? Check those components.Could maybe be a thrust washer.from your clutch push rod.I don't think they're brass though.I thought you were gonna swap out the cables and ride? Good luck on finding the cause.
Don

I have a new clutch release plate that I'm putting in today as well.... I figure since I had to drop the pipes, drain the tranny, bleed the brakes.... I might as well do a whole service while I'm at it. I'm just over 8500, and I'll be close to 15k by end of August. I wanted to pull the primary and check it also, just because... well because three weeks away is the trip to Sturgis, and I've learned to never do my servicing within a week of a trip... gotta have some "oh **** look what I found" time.

But yeah, good idea and I'll def check the release push rod area...

Found it... the clutch release plate that I cobbled back together has some rough spots on the back side, where it contacted the tube housing of the release shaft. It wore off some surface of that tube. No harm, no foul....whew!

Changed oil x3, filter, pulled the pipes and did the clutch cable, popped in new crush gaskets while I had the pipes off. pulled the primary housing and inspected found crap as stated above, but otherwise clean as a whistle. Installed new rear brake line... did quick run down the road... clutch feels really good now.

It's hot now, so going to knock off for the day and tip a cold one. I'll finish the throttle/idle cables and front brake line in the morning.
