I found something very similar when i did mine.... it ended up being a piece of the bearing that slides over the tranny shaft...i suspect it had fractured during assembly, or something... had never caused a problem, just found it sitting in there
i brought to my local dealer and they pulled the seal, pressed the old bearing out, installed a new one ....40.00 dollars later, i was good.
glad to hear everything worked out for you, though!
All done.... man, everything feels good! New Barnett Clutch/throttle/idle cables, and new HD Diamondback brake lines (f/r), primary inspection and replacing my cobbled release plate fix, with a new release plate.... oils, filter, new crush gaskets on the pipes (since I had to drop them to do the clutch cable).
Took her for a 70 mile shakedown spin after finishing.... she feels good!
Shiny new cables.... they look nice... def are smooth:
Shakedown run out through the local area.... just beautiful this morning.. about 65 degrees and not a cloud....
yep... the face says it all..... really nice morning...

Not the myspace photo there at the end. Don't ride the 95 down to Lewiston right now. Fresh chip seal, stick to the 195. The bike looks good!
??? I don't even have 'myspace' ...... what you talk'n 'bout willis...
yeah, they're chip sealing all over the bloody place.... god I hate that crap... 'cause they don't do it with regular gravel.... **** is like .5" diameter chipped rock and then the nasty friggin oil...... hell.... the roads were beautiful till now.... oh well.

Yes they were nice. I rode in the crap on friday and it sucked. Came home up the 195.
Found it... the clutch release plate that I cobbled back together has some rough spots on the back side, where it contacted the tube housing of the release shaft. It wore off some surface of that tube. No harm, no foul....whew!
Changed oil x3, filter, pulled the pipes and did the clutch cable, popped in new crush gaskets while I had the pipes off. pulled the primary housing and inspected found crap as stated above, but otherwise clean as a whistle. Installed new rear brake line... did quick run down the road... clutch feels really good now.
It's hot now, so going to knock off for the day and tip a cold one. I'll finish the throttle/idle cables and front brake line in the morning.
Good news, you had us all worried for awhile there.
