Right on man! Looks great! Good luck with the tear down. Service manual is definitely a MUST. So long as you have that, your good to go. Do keep us updated on the progress. I'd love to see how your scoot turns out.

Oh, and poly bushings will solid mount your bars, but you'll get some more vibrations which I'm sure you know.

Yes - it it pretty much all original except for the forward controls.

The first problem I had was that it was spewing fuel out of the carb overflow vent. I pulled the carb off and removed the bowl (am the only one that ALWAYS strips one of the little screws the first time I disassemble a carb????)and found that the steel tab which is heat staked to the float and actuates the fuel shut-off plunger was slightly bent, thus allowing the float to travel too far without shutting off the fuel. I bent it back straight, reassembled things and it seemed to fix the problem.

After the test ride, I noticed that it was still dribbling fuel out of the drain tube and when I opened the fuel cap, found that the tank was under positive pressure. The tank vent was all sealed up, so I opened it and added a drain hose...........See how it works today.

Actually it is an "FXRS Covertible", so it came with the triple dics and front air suspension. I don't know that it is harder or softer, but the air allows for preload adjustment and is part of a solenoid controlled ant-dive system. It still seems to dive more that either my Buell or Ducati...but they both have pretty high end front suspensions.

I found a braided SS brake line kit at J&P so I'm good to go.

thanks.....

Default Carb Leak

So it worked for a while and began dribbling again. I took the carb back off and removed the bowl.....I found a sliver of rubber wedged between the seat and fuel inlet valve. R&R and it now is compeltely fixed.

I was disapointed to find that there is no rebuild kit availible...all the parts have to be ordered seperately.....What's the deal with that????

Default Saddle bags

Any idea if there are leather saddle bags available anywhere that mount to the original convertible mounting points?

I may just move my rear turn signals back to the traditional location though and get standards leather bags if I need them.

thoughts?

Sure looks in great condition. Should be good to see the transformation. Looks like you have a classic to go with a neat set of bikes in your garage, there's one for all occasions from what i can see.

Talking Nice...

Hey Scodill,

thats the same year and color FXRS that I bought last friday. mines got only 19000 miles on it.

puting forward controls on it is the first thing I want to do, if i keep it. (and that's a BIG if)

I'm 6'2" and feel all bunched up on it compared to my '85 FLH with forward controls.

the FXRS conv sure handles nice, tho....
