Here are a couple pics of my 08 with the chrome HD guard. I didn't really want to put it on but I felt like I should do something to try to protect my 120R motor. Now that it's on and I have my pegs installed I really like it. The downside is now I want to extend my controls and the guard is right in the way.
not to dig up a old thread but i just put a gaurd on my 11 fat bob and almost lost it around a curve dragging pegs and then the gaurd touched scared the hell outa me
I must not lean hard enough my guard has never come close to touching. Or maybe it's my higher suspension.
Re: engine guard looks. I think having the bags and guard together completes the look. Bags alone, or guard alone, has always looked screwy to me. I realize my sig pic the bags are off but I usually have them on.
I have the H.D. engine guard on my '08 Dyna Super Glide Custom. Totally glad I have it since I dropped my bike once. No damage to the left side of my bike when I dropped it. Saddle bags helped to! The positive side of engine guard is a place to install lamps. I'll be installing H.D. engine guard-mounted fog lamps soon. Just waiting for the time to do the install. I should also write i took off the ugly u-clamps and had them powder coated black.
i leaned the bike over to see what touched first the pegs touch half an inch before bars. granted around the curve suspension is collapsed... I like them on and gives me a place for highway pegs. i have them off now gunna to some modding to give another inch or so on lean clearance. cut off mounts re bend and tig weld back together guess we will see
Wife wanted to try an engine guard on her FXDL; she didn't like it so I narrowed it 6", rolled it back, welded it to a pair of chopped highway peg mounts and had it powder coated...I like the looks; more in proportion to the bike. May mount a pair of pegs on the guard; working on some custom floorboards to try first.
