Dumb question, but how does the air cleaner insert stay on? There's no screw going through the middle of it, and doesnt the filter only have the 1 hole in the middle?
the insert comes wth an adapter...basically a five point star with a hole in the middle and on the end of each point. The adapter mounts to the filter then the insert screws into the adapter with the five screws.....pretty simple - the screws that came with the insert were a little short so I had to grab some 1/2 inch ones from the hardware store but that was it
yup - thats it....that link took me to the Canadian site though (cuz I'm in Canada I guess??) and the thing is $51 up here!!!!! glad I bought it down in the States when I was there....I think I paid $30 or $35 bucks for it at Bellingham HD
Did you notice any performance difference between the OEM Dyna AC cover and the Open Element setup?
well I went from the SE Stage 1 to this set up so there wasn't any noticable performance gain (The SE is already a hi-flow unit so I didn't expect any either).....I definitely DID notice an improvement when I went from the stock unit to the Stage 1 though...excellent bang for the buck I'd say.........
Thanks CRF, I have the Hi Flow Stg 1 setup (using the OEM cover) for my rebuild.
Was just second guessing the choice to change to a setup like yours.
Which would be more money to spend. If there's not a significcant difference I won't bother at this point.
I did the exact same thing a couple of years ago to my bike.. I painted my "skull" cover and then removed the paint on the skull using a sanding pad making the skull appear to be brushed.

I might try that idea. On my a/c cover and my derby cover. hmmmm
