Ive got 16K on my 08 Super Glide and it died on my yesterday. Wouldn't start so I got the volt meter out and started digging. Battery is shot after 1 year of riding. Hmm... Anyone else have this problem?
Yeah, I ride at least 20 miles every day, my 07 SB with 4000 miles was on the tender all winter. A couple of weeks ago I went to start it up and it was so dead the indicator lights were barely lit.
Used my son's jump start kit and rode to the dealer (Hannums in Chadds Ford), obviously with no appointment on a Monday morning. Within an hour they had it checked over- it was the battery and the charging system was OK. Put in a new battery under warranty and I was on my way. They didn't even bother to roll it inside, just fixed it out back behind the shop.
The tech said they've seen this happen from time to time. Good luck with yours, hope you get the same treatment.
yeah, I get the red carpet treatment where I go. My wife is a bikini babe for them and I ride with hald the mechanics and the dealership owner. I got it good there. They treat me good.
I called the mechanic that takes care of my bike and he said while it's not an everyday thing it does happen. So I get a new battery for free! I just thought I would get more than one season out of it. Oh well... At least it's under warranty.
Interesting - I got 4 years out of the first battery and only changed it because I was going on a long trip. I ride about 40 miles a day, 5 days a week so maybe that's why. No non-riding season here in South Texas, so maybe the constant use keeps it alive? I would have thought the heat would kill it early but for me the stock batteries seem to be good.
I do not own a battery tender so never use one. I remove the battery when stored for winter and check charge when bringing out of storage. Still on the OE battery, purchased bike Sept. 2005. So will be 4 years old this sept.
Bought a replacement battery (Extreme) @ Batteries + in January of '09. Mid-July it dies on me. Couldn't get warranty as they wanted to check the battery. Tough to do when I'm returning from a trip and loaded down. I'll never buy that crummy battery again.
East-Penn also makes Deka batteries, they are the same company that provides the MOCO with the stock battery. Search Deka and see if there is a dealer near you. When they are covered under warranty that's better yet.
