Default FI tune with stock pipes

I guess this has been ask before, but I don't want to change the stock pipes but would like to do a FI tune with one of the the many companies I see talked about on here. I'm surre with out changinging to better pipes in may not be worth it any thoughts?

If you look at the Harley Davidson website they provide a torq and HP chart for what results you can expect with the screaming eagle air cleaner and their remap. No mention is made of adding the screaming eagle slip-ons so I assume these results were obtained with only the SE air cleaner and Harley remap. There is about a 10% increase in both HP and TQ. Under the SE slip-on page the dyno charts don't show much change over stock if the mufflers are all you change. I changed to the less restrictive SE AC and had the Harley remap and noticed a significant increase in power which is really noticeable when accelerating in 6th.

What do you want to accomplish? Performance, sound or a cooler running engine?

Worth is subjective. Tuners are put on Tourers and baggers routinely, without any other mods, just to reduce heat, improve mpg, or whatever.

With a tuner you will get better drive-ability, lower heat buildup, smoother operation, less or more mpg (your choice), and usually at least 10% more horsepower and a bit more torque because of better efficiency. Instead of a compromise one size fits all download, you get one specific for your bike and driving style.

If you think you will be adding or changing parts as you go along, a tuner that you can re-tune yourself will pay for itself in the long run.

If you are open to options other than a tune, the nightrider stuff is certainly effective cooling the bike and richining the closed loop air-fuel mixture. You may not notice any other benefits by the seat of your pants. You can also buy $10.00 in parts and hack up the resistor dividers yourself. These devices do nothing for open loop (e.g. more than ~50% throttle) but you won't typically run in the open loop part of the envelope anyway.

If and when you choose to move on to pipes, etc, a fuel pack would augment the XiEDs as fuel packs operate in the open loop part of the envelope. So you have all the bases covered nicely except for timing. Timing is a relatively minor issue anyway until you try to squeeze out that last 2-3HP.

So a good plan would be to add XiEDs for everyday riding, add then if you want more WOT performance, also add a fuel pack. Both operate well on a stock bike although the fuel pack may not worth it unless you also do other mods. XiEDs do not work with Fuelers that disable the O2 sensors.

V&H is one example of a fuel pack.

Have fun and ride.
