2007 street bob...after putting 16" apes there was a clunking noise about ten feet down the street. After returning to the garage I discovered it won't shift from gear to gear without rolling the bike a little and hearing a click at the foot shift. I took the derby cover off and adjusted clutch cable trying to fix the prob. and now the clutch will not engage...won't move at all. I checked to see if the ***** in the tranny cover were seated and they are. I don't know what to try now.
Make sure your cable is seated in all the little ferrules that it has.
So with derby cover off, and you actuate the clutch lever, the clutch release plate does not move the clutch pack?
You need to re-do the procedure again, starting with collapsing the clutch cable and adjusting the clutch. You also know that the clutch has to be adjusted at "room temperature".... adjusting it hot will do you no good.
Also 16" apes.... did you install new/longer cables?
+1 on the clutch cable and clutch pak adjustments, another place to look would be on the right side of the bike and make sure the clutch release mech is still together. Do the work on an overnight cool engine.
I,ve done everything at room temp...have the longer cables...took the tranny cover back off and double checked to see if ***** in the ramps where still in place and that the cable was connected properly(they were)...collapsed the cable and adjusted the clutch pack per manual. The clutch pack was working fine at first but still would not shift from gear to gear without rolling bike a little so after trying to adjust clutch pack to fix problem all the sudden the clutch pack stopped moveing all together. I'm stummped!!
pretty tough to troubleshoot without laying eyes on it.... can you do a vid clip or something like that, of the clutch lever, down the cable to the clutch pack and then actuate your lever while show the clutch pack?
I know... pain in the *** to do that, but.... did you put the snap ring back in on your 3-ball ramp plate under the tranny cover?
Yea, made sure snap ring on 3-ball ramp was located right where it was originally. I,ve adjusted and re-adjusted the cable and clutch pack and still can't get clutch pack to move in and out anymore. Thanks for the advice...I really don't want to have to haul it to the dealer for this.
Kinda of thinking the pushrod from clutch adjustment to right side snapped, broke in half.If the release mech. is working properly it pushes against the the rod and in turn is supposed to separate the plates.
I,m back to square one...I can get the clutch pack to move but it still wont't shift gears every time. Some times when the clutch is in it will go into the next gear and then sometimes I have to roll the bike a little until the foot shift clicks and then it will shift one gear and then I have to roll the bike again. Is this cured by adjusting the clutch pack or something else?
I wouldn't judge the shifting by using a static bike. Ride it carefully. By trying to shift without the engine running or bike moving, the gears won't mesh most of the time.
Even if the pushrod snapped, it should still push against itself. I "think" it is captive inside another rod/tube.. not 100% sure though.
